Joseph B. 'Joe' Tomasin


MILTON, Wis. - Joseph B. "Joe" Tomasin, 92, of Milton, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Sept. 11, 2016, at the Heartwarming House, Milton, where he recently resided.

He was born April 12, 1924, in Hurley, the son of the late John and Margaret (Uski) Tomasin. He attended and graduated from high school in Hurley. Following graduation, Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II while stationed in Papua, New Guinea.

He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in physical education.

On June 23, 1951, he married the former Ann B. Driscoll in Ironwood, Mich. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 2002.

Joe had worked for a time as an aircraft inspector at Convair Co. in San Diego. After moving back to Wisconsin with his family, he worked in education for Rock County, and retired as the principal at Glen Oaks School.

He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan. He was an athlete during high school and college, and was an inductee into the Hurley Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also a member of VFW Post 1580 in Hurley.

Joe is survived by his three children, Joseph A. Tomasin, of Milton, George O. Tomasin, of Janesville, and Ann T. (Randy) Massoglia, of Milton; his beloved granddaughter, Catherine (fiancé Matt Wasilowski) Massoglia, of Madison; and nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, John and William; and by two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton, with Father David Timmerman officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, on Friday at 10 a.m.

A memorial visitation will take place from 10 until 11 a.m., on Thursday at the church. Military rites conducted by the VFW Kienow-Hilt Post 1621 will follow the Mass.
