David L. Bonk

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - On Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, David L. Bonk, 75, passed peacefully into his Savior's arms. Jesus Christ received David by grace into his eternal home.

David was born on Oct. 29, 1942, in Ironwood, Mich., to Louis J. and Helen M. (Sullivan) Bonk. He attended school in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1961. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was also a member of the Michigan National Guard.

On July 8, 1972, he married the former Mary Prosek and they enjoyed 46 years together. He was employed with the Ironwood Police Department for seven years and worked at the Ojibway Correctional Center for 27 years. Throughout his married life, he was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hurley, Wis.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary Bonk; children, Anthony D. Bonk, of Ironwood, and Christopher J. Bonk, of Janesville, Wis .; grandchildren, Gunnar W. Bonk and Fiona M. Bonk, both of Janesville; one sister, Diane M. Bonk, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Joseph A. Bonk.

Visitation for David will be on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hurley, 309 N. Second Ave. in Hurley. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Military honors for David will be at the church immediately following the service.
