Nancy J. Gehrke

MONTREAL, Wis. - Nancy J. Gehrke, 67, of Montreal, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021.

Nancy was born to Conrad and Martha (Sillanpa) Mattson on Aug. 17, 1954, in Bessemer, Michigan. Nancy was a 1972 graduate of Hurley High School, and she went on to receive her Associate Degree from Gogebic Community College. Nancy then worked at Gogebic Community College in the admissions office for 31 years, retiring in 2007.

On June 4, 1988, Nancy was united in marriage with Harold Gehrke, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Nancy was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ironwood, also serving on the church council. She enjoyed volunteering her time at Little Finland and the Iron County Food Pantry. Nancy enjoyed baseball and bowling, and her latest passion was golfing. Most of all Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great-nieces, Leona and Gloria.

She will be missed by her three brothers, Dennis (Carol) Mattson of Ironwood, Jerry (Mary) Mattson of Iron Belt, and David (Doreen) Mattson of Meridian, Idaho; stepdaughter, Gina (Jim) White; two stepgrandchildren, Alyssa and Andrew; seven nieces and nephews, James (Rhonda) Mattson, Jeanne (Dennis) Thoemke, Paul (Rori) Mattson, Brian (Nancy) Mattson, Stacy (Steve) Kleinschmidt, Kim (Bob) Maki and Meredith (Jeffery) Kerns; and 15 great-nieces and nephews. Nancy is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Martha Mattson; and her husband, Harold.

Visitation for Nancy will take place on Friday, Aug. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironwood. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Doug Norquist officiating. Burial will take place at the Hillside Cemetery in Iron Belt.
