L'ANSE, Mich. - George Haapala passed away of natural causes on Sept. 13, 2021, while a resident of Bayside Village in L'Anse.

He played violin expertly as a main instrument for years.

He served in the U.S. Army as a band member and cook on troop trains during World War II while traveling.

He was a gentle man who loved his family and home life. He welcomed everyone to join him in his music playing.

He lived what he believed. He will be missed by those who loved him, that he left behind.

A graveside service was held on Sept. 20, at the Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing.
