IRONWOOD, Mich. — Karen E. Wedenoja, 81, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Community Home in Ironwood.

Karen was born on Aug. 15, 1940, in Wakefield, the daughter of James and Eloise (Hopkins) Minier. She was united in marriage with Melvin C. Wedenoja on Nov. 2, 1968, in Ironwood. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Mel’s Bar in Ironwood Township. Karen was also a member of the Black River Harbor Boat Club and enjoyed bowling.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin in 2003; sisters, Onettia, Claudia and Jeanette; and brothers, James Jr., Richard and Ervin.
