IRONWOOD, Mich. - Daniel Koeppel, 74, died at home on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.
He was born on May 25, 1947, in Antigo, Wisconsin, to the late Norbert and Caroline (Lex) Koeppel.
Dan graduated from Antigo High School in 1965. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War (1966-1968).
In his younger years, Danny enjoyed playing modified pitch softball and logging. He also loved shooting a good game of pool and shaking dice. As an avid sports fan, Danny liked watching the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks, and the Wisconsin Badgers. He was a whizz at sports history - ask him who the Heisman Trophy winner for a specific year was and he could tell you. Placing bets, on almost any game or topic, with his friends was also a great pastime of Danny's. But above all, he held honesty in the highest regard - keeping you honest in a conversation, gave him great delight.
In the 80s Danny moved up to Ironwood, and built a thriving business as owner of the largest antique store in the U.P. - Dan's Antique Mall for over 25-plus years. Throughout that time, Monica Kuchinski, of Wakefield, served as Danny's dedicated No. 1 assistant.
Survivors include his two brothers, Terrence (Joy) Koeppel, Phlox, Wisconsin, and Randy (Debbie) Koeppel, Summit Lake, Wisconsin; sister, Penelope Koeppel, Phlox, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Mary (Jim) Kriha, Aniwa, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Kelly, Bret, Aaron, Joy, Jay, Corey, Robynn, Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, Toni Jo, Travis, Chase, Richie, Jamie and Ernie; and Danny's dear friends and caregivers, Joel and Raeann Brandt, Saxon, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Koeppel; and infant sister, Mary Ann Koeppel.
We would like to thank the Regional Hospice Services & Palliative Care in Ironwood, especially Sarah, Paula, and Mary, and Dr. James Rocco, Wakefield, for the care they provided to Danny. We would especially like to thank Joel and Raeann Brandt for their friendship and caregiving they provided for Danny.
A private burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Phlox at a future date.
The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home of Ironwood to honor Daniel's legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
