Katherine 'Kay' Genevieve Pellinen

BESSEMER, Mich. - Katherine "Kay" Genevieve Pellinen, 85, passed away from natural causes in September 2022 at her home in Bessemer.

She was born in April 1937 and was raised by the Watters and Belanger families in Houghton and Ironwood. Kay married Francis "Frank" Richard Pellinen in July 1955. Frank passed away in July 2002.

Kay was a longtime Gogebic County resident, living in Ironwood and Bessemer. She graduated St. Ambrose High School in Ironwood in 1955. Kay worked throughout her life as a homemaker and at Ironwood Products, Citgo (Krist Oil), Brite Spot, Walmart, Community Action, and as a caregiver at Aspirus.

Kay's biggest detriment in life being was a Minnesota Vikings fan instead of the Green Bay Packers.

She is survived by her children, Ellen (Jim Mildren), Richard Pellinen, Sandra (Dale Wehmas), Donald Pellinen and Frank (Kristi) Kesti.

Kay had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay had exceptional neighbors at her Hillcrest apartment who she held dearly in her heart and Kay always felt like her neighbors were part of her extended family.

The family appreciates and thanks the local community who helped in Kay's final days: the staff at

Fairview Housing, the medical professionals at Aspirus Hospital, and especially the professionalism of

the Gogebic County Sheriff's Office and Ironwood Public Safety Department, who responded in her final moments. Also, thanks to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home for their guidance and support.

Private Services were held with immediate family. Memorial donations, while unnecessary, can be made to HOPE Animal Shelter in Ironwood.

The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home of Ironwood to honor Kay's legacy of life. You can leave condolences or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
