Anthony 'Tony' Dominic Rodeghiero

HURLEY, Wis. - Anthony "Tony" Dominic Rodeghiero, 71, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was born on June 28, 1951, in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of Andrew and Minnie (Negri) Rodeghiero. Tony attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1969. After high school graduation, he attended Gogebic Community College in Ironwood and transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, where he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial arts.

After graduating from UW-Stout, Tony taught one year at Phillips High School and later returned to Hurley where he taught industrial arts at the Hurley School District for 33 years. In addition to teaching industrial arts, he was also a driver's education instructor. Tony coached track at Hurley High School, was involved with the Quarterback Club, and was part of the chain sideline crew for the high school football team for many years. Tony retired from Hurley School District in 2007, and was later inducted into the Hurley Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.

Tony married his love, Carole Swartz, on Nov. 10, 1990. Tony was involved with the Hurley Little League, Polar Bear Hockey Club and was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, where he volunteered many years for the church bazaar. During the summer months, Tony and Dale Wicklund completed numerous construction projects, two of which included building each other's own homes. Tony prided himself on being able to fix almost anything and doing it right the first time. You would find him puttering around the house with miscellaneous projects, helping friends and family, gardening, traveling to Texas in the winter months, and supporting his grandchildren in their extracurricular activities. Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking and biking in his spare time.

Tony stayed connected with his Italian relatives in Asiago, Italy, to learn more about his Italian roots. Tony and Carole enjoyed many trips to Italy together over the years.

Tony is survived by his loving wife, Carole, after 33 years of marriage; two stepsons, Brent (Lisa) Dahl, Sugar Land, Texas, and their children, Brady and Alex; and Nathan (Jessica) Dahl, Edgar, and their son, Logan; two sisters, Joanne (Doug) Beck, Superior, and their children, Paul, Matthew and Andrea; and Frances Schindler, Rockford, Illinois, and her children, Brian and Allison.

Tony is further survived by five sisters-in-law, Kay (Jim) Thompson, Mary (Mike) Popko, Pam (Wally) Zanella-Bruneau, Dawn Cochran and Lori (Rob) Rye; five brothers-in-law, Rick (Marie) Swartz, Bob (Debbie) Swartz, Mike (Debbie) Swartz, Doug (Jean) Swartz and Jeff (Amy) Swartz; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Minnie, Hurley; and his brother-in-law, Rick Schindler, Rockford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 8, at 11 a.m. preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 404 Iron St., in Hurley, with the Rev. Hrudaya Raju Sunkara, celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.

Luncheon to follow at the Kimball Community Center immediately upon return from the cemetery.

The family requests any memorial contributions be made in Tony's name to the Hurley Education Foundation, 5503 W. Range View Drive, Hurley, WI 54534, in lieu of flowers benefiting the Tech Ed program.
