  • Sheriff Samardich announces Iron County department promotions

    HURLEY - Iron County Sheriff Paul Samardich recently announced several promotions within the Sheriff's Department. Deputy Jason Geach was promoted to chief deputy. He will be second in command in the department. The county board voted Tuesday to replace the undersheriff position with that of chief deputy.     MILWAUKEE - Elmer H. "Al" Sass Jr., 84, was born to eternal life Sunday, Jan 27, 2019, with his family by his side at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical center in Milwaukee. Elmer was born April 5, 1934, to Elmer H. Sass and Florence Rein in East Detroit, Mich. Both preceded him in death. He is survived by one sister, Sandra Starr.
